About This Curriculum

About Me:

Hi! I’m Jason Morefield, a 17-year-old FIDE chess master from central Virginia. I have been teaching chess since I was eleven years old, and playing in tournaments since shortly after I turned ten. In addition to chess, I like strategy games, science fiction, and spending time with friends. I am currently planning on attending college in the fall of 2021 as a student at the University of Virginia.

Update: Jason is now a fourth-year aerospace engineering student at UVA.

Jason wins the 2024 Virginia State Championship!

Jason wins the 2021 Virginia State Championship!

About the Volunteers:

Multiple participants volunteered through the Hampton Roads Chess Association. Their names are kept anonymous so as not to pose any privacy concerns. Other participants were my personal friends or relatives. I also worked with the Hampton Roads Chess Association to ensure that the curriculum met their standards to be posted on their website, and received feedback from some members of my Boy Scout troop. Every contribution is appreciated.

About the Curriculum:
This curriculum is something I have been hoping to create for a long time, and it also serves as my Eagle Scout project. The goal of this curriculum is to ensure that everyone who wants to get a solid foundation in the game of chess doesn’t have to pay to do so, thus reducing the barrier to entry into the game and increasing its accessibility overall. Although chess remains a somewhat expensive hobby, this website makes it a little less so.
